“Trump-Brokered India-Pakistan Ceasefire Falters Within Hours as Border Violations Erupt”

At 5:25 PM IST, Donald Trump declared a truce, which India subsequently verified at approximately 6 PM.New Delhi: Hours after the truce was declared, India said on Saturday night that Pakistan had broken the deal and that the military was reacting correctly.”Repeated violations of the understanding reached earlier this evening between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMseriously.ThisOs) of India and Pakistan have occurred in the last three hours,” said Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri in a statement released at approximately 11 p.m. This violates the previous agreement.

The military is appropriately and sufficiently addressing these violations, and we take them very seriously.

“Urging Pakistan to halt its violations and approach the situation with genuine seriousness and accountability, Misri stated that the armed forces are keeping a vigilant eye on developments. He emphasized that they have clear orders to respond decisively to any future breaches, whether along the international border or the Line of Control (LoC).”

His statement followed multiple sightings and interceptions of drones across various parts of Jammu and Kashmir, including Srinagar and areas of Gujarat.

Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also voiced his concerns, highlighting the seriousness of the situation and the need for a measured, responsible approach from all sides involved. Posting on X (formerly Twitter) at 8:53 PM, he wrote: “So what happened to the ceasefire? Explosions were heard in Srinagar.”

Less than 20 minutes later, he posted again with more clarity: “This is no ceasefire. “Air defense units in the heart of Srinagar have just opened fire,” he wrote, signaling the intensity of the unfolding situation and the heightened of alert in the region.

Ceasefire Announcement

The ceasefire announcement came somewhat unexpectedly from former U.S. President Donald Trump announced the development on his social media platform, Truth Social, at 5:25 PM IST (approximately 8:00 AM in Washington, D.C.).

“After a long night of negotiations mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a full and immediate ceasefire,” he wrote. “Congratulations to both nations for using common sense and excellent intelligence. Thank you for your attention to this matter!” Trump wrote.

Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar confirmed the agreement, and Indian Foreign Secretary Misri also acknowledged it around 6 PM.

Misri explained that a significant step was taken earlier in the day when the Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) of Pakistan contacted his Indian counterpart at 3:35 PM IST. During the conversation, both sides reached a mutual agreement to cease all forms of military activity—across land, air, and sea—effective from 5 PM IST the same day. He added that both parties had been instructed to implement the agreement.

India’s diplomatic stance, particularly regarding the potential suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, remained unchanged in the wake of the announcement. Reports suggested that the ceasefire agreement with Pakistan was not absolute, but rather conditional—dependent on sustained peace and the absence of further provocations.

Speaking at a press conference,Defence Minister Nair stated, “Every provocation by Pakistan has been met with firmness, and any future escalation will be met with a decisive response.” His remarks underscored India’s unwavering stance on national security and its readiness to act swiftly in the face of any renewed aggression.
